Companies with a page have official records beyond complaint counts — the names they collect under, what they do, and any enforcement action. The others are listed with their CFPB figures only.

How to read these numbers

A complaint count reflects how many people chose to file, as the CFPB itself cautions; it is not a measure of how many consumers had a problem. A company that collects on more accounts can draw more complaints at the same rate of problems, so the mix of issues says more about a company than its total. When consumers pick “attempts to collect debt not owed”, they are saying the debt as described is not one they owe — the situation a validation letter is for, because it makes the collector show the debt before collecting.

Method

Counts come from the CFPB Consumer Complaint Database public API, product “Debt collection”, complaints received 2023-10-01 to 2026-09-30, retrieved 2026-10-01. Companies whose main business is not debt collection (credit bureaus, banks, card issuers, lenders) are left out. Enforcement records come only from CFPB, FTC, SEC and state regulator websites.
